We just had our annual Week of Fire at one of our campus locations. Five nights being in the presence of God together, to refocus our lives back on what is most important: JESUS.
It is so good for us all, Rich and me especially. But it is a lot of work for us, spiritually, mentally, and physically. It takes extreme focus, discipline, and preparation to ensure our church has the best week possible with Jesus. When we finish, we are exhausted.
Today, I am feeling it. I leave Wednesday on a trip, I need to pack, I have doctors’ appointments and meals to prep, and my bedroom is torn apart due to flooding from a recent storm. I am tired.
When I find myself with so many things to do, running on zero and needing to rest, I choose to trust the Lord. NONE of it happens if I am sick. NONE of this happens if I run myself ragged. Days like today, I do what I must and trust the Lord with the rest. Some of it just won’t happen, and that is okay.
I used to add stress into the equation because of “all the things” I had piled onto my to-do list. I would create tension for my family and would make my life miserable. So fun! 😅
That was all in vain. Now, I trust the Lord with what I can’t do; I rest when I need to rest and know that God will take care of it all:
“If God’s grace doesn’t help the builders, they will labor in vain to build a house. If God’s mercy doesn’t protect the city, all the sentries will circle it in vain. It really is senseless to work so hard from early morning till late at night, toiling to make a living for fear of not having enough. God can provide for his devoted lovers even while they sleep!“ – Psalms 127:1-2 TPT
You must learn how to rest, not just your body, but your mind. Stop telling yourselves you are just being lazy. Stop telling yourself you are the answer to all of life’s problems. You aren’t. Life goes on without you being everyone’s savior.
And for my sweet friends who like to feel guilty about resting…knock it off🫣.
Your children will survive one night on quesadillas or cereal. Your husband is going to be fine if you just order pizza. The laundry isn’t going anywhere, trust me. The house needs cleaning, and that will be the case until you meet Jesus. The ministry is in the Lord’s hands.
It. Will. Be. Okay. Take a day and REST.
If you don’t choose to rest, your body will force you to rest and it will be the most inconvenient time. You can help NO ONE if you are sick, grumpy, mentally exhausted, physically worn out, or spiritually drained. You are of use to NO ONE, and it is your fault for not resting when you should have. Even Jesus made this necessary to his disciples! He MADE them rest:
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” – Mark 6:31 NIV
Lighten up, ladies. Life will go on, and you will be happier when you learn this important and valuable skill: REST.
Have an excellent week! Love you all!!
Sometimes when I finish reading GoGirl, it seems as if you overheard a conversation my husband and I had.
One of those moments today.
Thank you for the encouragement!
On point 🎯
“The house needs cleaning, and that will be the case until you meet Jesus.”
Lol… My favorite part! Seriously!!
