Whether you’re single and ready to mingle or a seasoned wife with kids, this list is packed with timeless traits inspired by Proverbs 31:10-31.
The “virtuous wife” standards are just the same for a virtuous woman—single or married. And don’t worry, nobody scores a perfect 10 in every area! These are simply areas in which we can all keep growing and improving to improve our lives.
As for me? I’m currently fighting for my life with #1, but hey, I’m determined to become the woman God called me to be. It’s a lifelong journey, and I’m all in!
1. Communication
Sharing your feelings and understanding your partners is a must-have skill in any relationship. After all, your hubs cannot read your mind. You’ve got to communicate your expectations and feelings and figure out how to tackle issues together. Remember, as Neil Strauss wisely put it, “Uncommunicated expectations are premeditated resentments.” OUCH!
2. Time management
Life can be hectic, yet we all share the same 24 hours each day. When we can’t effectively balance our responsibilities, it often leads to heightened stress, less quality time with family, stunted personal growth, and unfulfilled goals. Effective time management makes everything work more smoothly and efficiently. Ditch the stereotype of the wife snacking on the couch binging Netflix all day… embrace a more dynamic, active, engaged, and empowered role. You’re a powerhouse of skills and style!
3. Decision-making
Making correct, timely, and appropriate decisions can lead to positive changes in your life.
Being a wife who makes decisions keeps the marriage ship sailing smoothly. Teamwork means sharing the steering wheel, whether it’s for daily stuff or big life moves. A decisive wife brings stability, confidence, and trust, which lightens the burden and leads to a healthier, more balanced relationship. Wives who are paralyzed by the fear of making the wrong decision can add unnecessary stress and tension to the marriage. Don’t be her.
4. Money management
Money management is a crucial skill for a wife because it keeps the household running smoothly and helps avoid financial stress. Whether you’re contributing to the income or managing the spending, being smart with money ensures you can meet goals, plan for the future, and navigate unexpected expenses. It also fosters trust and collaboration in your marriage, as both partners feel secure knowing finances are in capable hands. Smart money choices mean more freedom to enjoy life—saving for a dream vacation or just splurging on that extra dessert!
5. Cooking
Knowing how to whip up healthy meals is a crucial life skill. While one spouse usually takes charge of the meal planning, grocery lists, and pantry stocking, if it’s not you, it’s wise to be ready to jump in and save the day if your culinary partner goes on strike—or wants a night off! After all, everyone should have a recipe for success in the kitchen!
6. Cleaning
Mastering the art of home cleaning is a vital life skill. Are you sharing chores? No sweat! Just make sure expectations are crystal clear and totally manageable. A tidy home is essential for keeping the peace, and having systems that work for everyone is the secret sauce to a harmonious household!
Example: I choose to pick my battles. Is my complicated origami towel folding worth the stress or fight? Probably not. If he is willing to fold it, I’ll take it any way it fits in the darn cabinet. Don’t be annoying (otherwise self-labeled as OCD).
7. First aid
Can you clean a wound and slap on a bandage? How about giving the Heimlich or CPR? First aid isn’t just a bonus; it’s essential for any wife! As the saying goes, “Girls are more expensive, boys are harder to keep alive”—including the boy we marry! Being able to provide immediate help keeps them stable until the professionals arrive. So, are you ready to be the family’s first responder?
8. Technology skills
Stop asking questions you can easily look up yourself! Use that device in your hand 24/7 to find the answers. Basic tech skills—like word processing, internet browsing, and operating essential gadgets—are essential for almost any role. So, don’t play the damsel in distress as a wife; empower yourself with these skills!
9. Manners, Etiquette and Hygiene
Smell fantastic, look sharp, and keep those outfits fresh and clean! A little self-care goes a long way, from your skin and hair to your teeth and nails. I’m not here to be the wife who goes all out to catch him but then forgets to keep the spark alive! So, don’t shy away from looking sexy and desirable on the regular.
And remember, good manners and etiquette are your secret weapons for showcasing yourself—and your husband and family—in the best possible light!
2 Corinthians 9:8 MSG: “God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done.”
Let’s support each other, share our wins and struggles, and swap tips and tricks for navigating this wild ride called LIFE. We’ve only got one shot at it—so let’s make it count and give it our all! Go, Girls! You’ve got this, and God’s got YOU!
