SIDELINE (verb) – To remove from active participation.
To be on the sidelines is to watch life happen rather than make it happen. Whether by choice or by distraction, sideliners are not fully engaged. It may be harmless, but it’s costly.
Living life on the sidelines means you’re not in the game. You’re not influencing, growing, or contending. You’re spectating—maybe even cheering others on—but deep down, you know you were made for more.
And God knows it, too.
🔥 FAN THE FLAME 🔥
2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NLT)
“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you… For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Each of us has been gifted and called. You’re not left out. You’re not disqualified. You’ve been equipped to fulfill the Great Commission.
So why are so many still on the sidelines?
Some are stuck in fear. Others are tangled in distraction—careers, kids, hobbies, health (good and poor), even good things that have taken center stage over God things. But make no mistake:
Being on the sideline doesn’t mean you’re doing nothing.
It means you’re doing the wrong thing.
We tell ourselves, “Someday…”
But “someday” is a myth. It’s a silent killer of purpose.
“Someday” Is Not a Strategy
I came across a powerful article by Ray Edwards, a brilliant copywriter, marketer, family man and man of faith who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011. His life took on a new urgency, and here’s what he had to say:
“The things I called ‘priorities’ were merely wishful thinking. Real priorities demand our attention… I realized I had been suffering from a big, fat case of ‘Someday Syndrome’—a killer if there ever was one…
Someday Syndrome is deadlier than Parkinson’s or any other disease, because Someday Syndrome kills your dreams and aspirations… Sadly, Someday Syndrome prevents you from fulfilling what you were designed to accomplish.”
—Ray Edwards
💥 WAKE-UP CALL: No One Will Do This for You
Let me get personal: I finally signed up for online Biblical training—not because I had free time, but because I was done putting it off. I got tired of waiting for someone to “equip” me, waiting for someone to come along and teach me. Years have gone by. Opportunities passed. I’m not getting younger—and neither are you.
If I want to discover, develop, and deploy the gifts God has placed in me, I can’t keep waiting. I have to put myself in the game, train intentionally, and activate my faith.
God won’t magically make you ready “someday.”
You grow by saying YES today.
🚨 Conviction Check:
Where are you on the sidelines?
It’s time to stop watching life pass you by.
God has entrusted you with gifts, purpose, and divine assignments. Don’t bury them under busyness, fear, or “someday.” Get in the game.
Let me repeat Ray Edwards’ words one more time:
“Sadly, Someday Syndrome prevents you from fulfilling what you were designed to accomplish.”
And we don’t have time for that.
Go, Girl. Let’s DO this. 🔥
