Oh, man! I am about to talk about a topic that might make many of you super mad, LOL! So get your capes ready!  (Get it?! SUPERmad?)

This has been something that’s been discussed between Rich and me several times in the last couple of months. Let me start with two brief stories.

We saw a well-known female Christian singer perform at a personal conference with only 100 people. I wasn’t particularly a fan of her, but I’m a big fan of live music, so I was happy to be there.

She sang several old classics, one new song she had been working on, and she talked ….a lot. About 3/4 of the way through, Rich whispers to me, “This is one of the most emotional things I have ever heard in my life, all the songs, everything she is saying, it’s so freaking emotional!”

I had realized I had been sitting there feeling like she was sucking my soul out of my body… trying to get me all emotionally involved in what she was singing and talking about… sorry Amy… we aren’t that close.

I also recently heard a speech by a woman about the age of 50. Her whole speech was about how she felt, using a super emotional voice, using Bible verses to talk about and support her emotions; I wanted to say …”shuuuuuttt uuuuuuppp!! No one wants to join you in your emotional craziness!”

When she finally finished, the only word I could think of to describe her speech was, “EEEWWWW.”

Here is the SCOOP: (Swoop your cape over your shoulders HERE if necessary….)

Emotions don’t equal spiritual enlightenment.

Emotions don’t equal holiness.

Emotions DO NOT equal spiritual authority.

Don’t be this girl…. listen up.

God created emotions. They bring flavor to life and can be a great teacher of what is happening inside us. But they cannot be allowed to be our “spiritual guide.”

NOWHERE in the Bible does it say “be emotional” when it comes to things of the Lord. It actually says the opposite. It says to renew our minds according to the Word of God; it says to be SOBER MINDED.  It says you are a fool if you give full vent to your emotions.

1 Peter 1:13 “Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Proverbs 29:11ESV “A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.”

Do not be fooled by women or even men, who can pull at your emotions and get you to feel one way or the other. Emotions lie. PERIOD…

Speaking of periods… (see what I did there?😜)

I remember driving down the road, and a song came on the radio, and it made me feel so emotional and just “one” with Jesus. I hated that song on all the other days, but today…it brought me to the heavens. Why?

Because my period was starting in two days, lol. (If you are a dude reading this😅… I’m not sorry, it’s 25% of our lives, so it must be brought up.) But before I thought about it, my emotions had caused me to feel soooo spiritual, so close to the Lord. My emotions caused me to feel “closer” to the Lord than I was the day before. But was that true? Had anything between the Lord and me changed? No. Just my feelings about it had.

This is where I caught it.  EMOTIONS do NOT equal TRUTH.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?……38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35, 38-39

We must stop relating our spiritual authority, discernment, awareness, relationship with, and ability to hear from the Lord on our emotions and how we feel that day.  How amazing would it be to live free of being tied to our emotions!?

That’s trash, it’s not biblical, it can be demonic, and quite frankly, I’m tired of women using it to manipulate people (men do it too, but the blog is called “GoGirl,” so …..🤣).

It’s easy to get someone’s emotions engaged and make them feel bad or good about what you’re talking about. But that doesn’t bring conviction or change and does not engage the heart. It only toys with emotions.

The Holy Spirit brings clarity, conviction, repentance, and change. NOT our emotions.

Emotions are a blessing from the Lord, but when you start allowing them to rule your life and use them as a gauge of your spirituality, you need to put yourself in check.

Worship always makes me cry, prayer always makes me cry, and people being saved or hearing about the persecuted church always makes me cry. Some days I’m super emotional; some days, I’m dry as a bone. But my heart remains firm in the Word of the Lord and His promises.  I do not allow my emotions to mask what’s really going on. I am close to Jesus even when my emotions are not working or working overtime, lol.

Ladies, let’s stop the emotional, hyper-spiritual trash in the church! Let’s be women of the WORD.

You made it! Hang up your capes. 😄

  1. 1. The part about our periods and “feeling” close to God and that verse is a great verse to remember that it doesn’t matter how we “feel”.
    2. The right management of our minds and heart!!
