Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you’ll be able to see further.”

Thomas Carlyle

Have you ever decided to change directions in life? Start a new chapter, a new season? Have you ever started something with enough excitement and energy to power the Las Vegas Strip? My diets are so annoyed by this energy… lol.

I’m here to talk about how to finish things and start new things the RIGHT way.

I was working as a sales rep at a company a few years back (I’ll spare you the details), and I was pretty good at it. But if you know me, being a social butterfly, pitching sales, and working people are not my forte. I enjoyed the people I worked with but was not too fond of the job. So I decided to make a career move and go in a completely different direction.

At that time, the company I was with had just made a significant move and needed their best, most experienced people working full force, full time, training, and setting the pace for all the new employees they had just brought on. So as you can imagine, when I spoke with my manager about moving on, he was not happy. He said, “Annie, can you just give me three more months? Can you stay and help us get this thing off the ground?”

The thought of it made me want to throw up. I didn’t owe this company anything, I didn’t have to stay, but hey, I’m easily guilted into a lot of things and said, “Oh, of course! That’s no problem at all.” Kicking myself as I walked out the door.

The following day, I am immediately confronted with my hasty decision. I had a choice. I could finish these last three months with a bad attitude, hating every minute of it, or I could go in there and kick butt and leave a champion… (I don’t know how you leave a champion from a basic phone sales job, but I had pumped myself up into believing those were my choices…LOL)

I decided to play the Rocky Theme Song on my way into work that morning and walked through those doors as a sales-making, butt-kicking, hard-working, motivated training machine.

Have you ever had your own personal theme music in your mind as you walk into the room? That was me that day. Of course, in reality, it was just a tiny little entrance no one else noticed as they were busy at their computers… haha! But for me… that decision changed my life.

At the end of the three months, my manager regretfully said his goodbyes and left me with this: “Annie, most people give their worst when they know they are leaving. But not you; you gave your hardest and best work, you finished strong, and I thank you for that.”

Remember no matter how fast you run, you can’t be the winner if you don’t finish.”

 Israelmore Ayivor

That was a proud moment for me. And I wish I could say I have done that ever since. But that would be a lie.

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people. Colossians 3:23 GNT

If it doesn’t matter to anyone else, it matters to the Lord. He sees, and He cares. That is why this is important.

My husband says, “wherever you are, BE ALL THERE.”

Which means don’t wish away today. Don’t waste the opportunities you have TODAY. You may be tired of your commitments, burnt out, and excited for the NEXT thing, a NEW season, but don’t get so excited that you miss out on what God has for you to still learn NOW.

Many will start fast, few will finish strong.”

Gary Ryan Blair

I have a sweet friend who is getting ready to move and start a new journey in another city. She is making BIG plans and BIG career moves! She is doing things never done in her family before… I couldn’t be more proud!! She recently told me she is wishing away these next few months because she is so excited to get on with it! I don’t blame her! But I encouraged her to spend these last couple of months giving her best, finishing strong. She will leave with NO regrets by giving her best with her job, ministry, family, and in every area of her life.

I have left with regrets. I have finished by fizzling out or even just quitting. I have disappointed people and wished I could have done better. I have wished away current seasons, anxious for new seasons, and missed out on learning and growing opportunities the Lord had for me.

What are you wishing away? What are you doing half-heartedly, with a bad attitude, or even considering quitting altogether? Do you really want to begin a new thing, having finished the last thing undone or in a poor state?

If you ask the Lord to strengthen you, to help you, you will finish strong. If you can renew your mind, you will position yourself to hear from the Lord, see things clearly, and go to another level in your perseverance, strength, and trust in Him.

Go ahead, girl…put on that Rocky Theme song, get your mindset focused, and RISE to be a CHAMPION!!

I believe in YOU!!

  1. I Love it. Extremely empowering and encouraging, even for men to get out of feelings and get into Focus on finishing.

  2. This is so encouraging and butt-kicking!! Definitely have failed and half 🍑 it so much in the past, but gonna give that stuff to God and keep moving forward and determine that I’m going finish everything I start and face “hard things” full force. *Rocky Music*
